news Easynet introduces extended reach Etherstream

If you're a small business and your Internet supplier cannot offer enough conventional broadband circuits on standard phone lines for you, Easynet may have the answer in the shape of its new extended reach Etherstream service.

Previously only an option for businesses within 2.5km of their local exchange, Easynet's Ethernet package has now been extended to a 4.5km radius.

The broadband ISP claims this increases its reach with the service by 350,000 SMBs (small-to-mid-sized businesses) to more than 1.7 million SMBs across the UK.

Much cheaper than a leased line, Etherstream uses existing telephone line infrastructure and bonds multiple copper lines between the end-user and their local exchange.

These multiple lines provide high speed Internet access, as well as ensuring extra resilience should there be a problem with the connection.

With up to 100 Mbps (megabits per second) available in 8 Mbps blocks, extended reach Etherstream may be the broadband answer that many firms have been looking for.

The good news is that, even if Easynet hasn’t enabled your exchange, other ISPs are scheduled to `unbundle' a number of UK exchanges to offer a similar service by the end of this year.
